AU REVOIR, TECH TV

5.30.2004

2:22 AM

I just remembered in the midst of all the excitement and in my half-conscious state of mind that TechTV merged with G4 on Thursday.

I took a look at the website and it sucks. You've got nothing but show notes on the shows. No crew bios, half the pages are down, and the graphics stink.

I went to the Shows category to see what survived. Basically, ALL of G4 programming is still there (obviously), and some of TechTV programming is there. The biggest loses were Call For Help and TechLive. The new channel is roughly 70% G4 and 30% TechTV.

I personally was very pissed about the merger, i'm now even more pissed about the result. I took a look at the message boards to see how others felt, and I think about 98 out of 100 posts were in agreement with me and were some form of G4/G4TechTV bashing.

The worse part is that because G4 has basically swallowed up TechTV, the studio in SF will be no more. The entire staff was laid off, Leo left, Pat left, so there's basically no more. What's left of TechTV is moving to LA. I think TechTV can never be TechTV without San Francisco. It's just not the same.

I found a bunch of petitions and signed them, but I doubt it'll do any good. Maybe viewership will sharply decrease and Comcast will have to do something about it. A lot of viewers have left and I am resolutely one of them. Last week was the last week I watched TechTV and I will never watch the new channel again unless I get extremely bored. But why watch G4TechTV when you have C-SPAN? =)

It was good while it lasted, but I guess all good things must come to an end.

G4TechTV stinks!

BEGINNINGS AND ENDS

5.27.2004

4:16 PM

Guess WHAT!

I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =)=)=)=)=)=)=)

I am now the official Valley Christian Senior High School National Honor Society President for the year 2004-2005!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ran against Chrispy and Ashley VJ. I heard the vote was REALLY close so I'm happy. Both are very worthy and qualified opponents. BUT I WON!!!!!!!!! This is like the first and only student government leadership I have. I'M SO HAPPY!!!THANK YOU GOD!!!!!

Okay, no that the excitment is over, I'm about 1/2 way through my essay so I need to finish it by Wenesday. So long, so boring.

Enterprise finale was sort've exciting, but the ending was stupid. Basically, Archer gets captured by Nazi's and Enterprise is stuck in WWII alternate past. Imagine how dumb that would've looked if Enterprise didn't get renewed. It was sort've predictable too. Oh well, until season four...

I was eyeing a Behringer guitar amp on eBay. There were two of them. One had a Buy-It-Now price of $49.99. The other was at $26.50 and was an auction. I decided to watch the auction to see how high it went, and if it went too high, I would buy the $50 amp. Turns out that during the course of the day, not only did the amp go up in price to $51, but the previous high bidder decided to buy the $50 amp. So, I'm out've luck for both right now. =( I guess I'm going to wait and see if I can find another one off eBay.

Speaking of guitar: WHY THE HECK WON'T ANYONE BUY MY GUITAR!!! IT'S ONLY $140!!!!!!

Okay, I was thinking of something else, but I forgot. I'll update if I remember.

COUNTDOWN: 9 MORE DAYS!!!

UPDATE 11:00 PM: I remember what I needed to say. I got accepted to Las Po concurrent enrollment for summer, but I'm really nervous. The only class I requested has 70 spots, and already ALL but 8 are full! I've have to wait until Monday to enroll in person, so I really need God's help to grant me a spot. My other fall course is already more than half enrolled too! agh!

Thank you, Lord for getting me out of one bind today. If it be Your will, grant me admission at Las Po!!!

UPDATE 5/28 4 PM: Found out today that Mandrake Linux 10.0 iso's are out, so I'm downloading a copy. Checked CLASS-WEB today, 8 spots still available. Thank you God for bringing me this far.

COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS

5.23.2004

12:42 AM

The past week has been extremely...well...interesting!

Monday was Sr. prank day. What they did was take all the desks out of the classrooms, steal mrs. miskel's phone and whiteboard markers, string mrs. woodward's door, and trash the rest of the classrooms with wads of paper. I heard the office had all their phones taken, and Dr. Unnasch's office was filled with balloons. To annoy everyone, they wrote on every writable surface with that scrape off paint. and to annoy the rest of the school, they cable-tied everyone's locker shut! Ahh, but here's the best part: the seniors pulled it in 2 hours, and A period cleaned all of it up in 1/2 an hour! most of the school probably didn't even know, so some of the seniors were so angry! furthermore, they went off to grad nite on thursday, so the juniors took a little friendly revenge by writing all over the seniors' cars while they were gone! The seniors, though, avenged our prank by writing on all the juniors' cars, including mine! now, i've got remnants of "it's good to be back 2004 on my rear driver side window. it's all fun though. we all like each other.

Oh yeah, i was thinking of running for NHS pres for next year. I tell this to Tim, and he gets all mad for some weird reason, so we've sort've just been getting at each other back and forth all week (well, more him). We find out Friday that Chris lost Sr. pres, so he's going to run for NHS pres. Now we're both in trouble, being that Chris is ten times more popular than the second most popular junior at our school. Both me and Tim agree that none of stand a good chance anymore, so it's all good. He still is mad that i'm still running, but I think his focus is more against Chris. I'll just do my best, and if I lose, then NHS will lose out (j/k =) )

In regards to the rest of school, this is the last week the seniors have regular classes. i'm also frantically working on my APUSH term paper.

My comp was down yesterday/early today because I finally decided to remove linux from my system. no, has nothing to do with me hating linux, on the contrary, i wished i could keep it, but nothing works. man, it took me so long to remove it. i removed the GRUB loader, but then the new MBR would not boot. Found out I had to change the Windows partition type to non-hidden. (geekspeek lol). But now, it's all good.

What I'm planning to do is go with VMWare Workstation instead. It's basically a powerful OS emulator, and the greatest program I've ever used. I tried reinstalling Red Hat 9 on VM, but the third CD is corrupted or something. So instead of burning a whole new set, I think i'm going to go with Mandrake, which is said to be better, if not on par with RH. I need to wait a couple of weeks for the ISO's of the newest version to come out though. it's worth it. this way, I can learn linux and unix and not mess with my comp, since everything's installed to a "virtual" hard drive.

What's neat about VMWare Workstation is that I can install just about any OS. I can actually install all vers. of Windows, from 3.1 to Longhorn (why would i really want to, though?) I am downloading a beta release of Longhorn, so that'll be neat to see. And, i found a program that emulates a PowerPC, so once I can get my hands on a copy of OSX, I can technically say I've got a Mac comp, a PC, and a Linux machine! The powerPC emulator is said to be slower than regular, but that's cool still.

OH, another NEW reason why Blogger is far better than Xanga: PHOTO HOSTING! Via Hello, blogger now makes it so easy to post photos. so sweet.

This week: Enterprise finale!

NEW DEVELOPMENTS, COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS

5.16.2004

3:46 PM

Nothing much really happened this week, at least in way of school. Most of my class in undergoing post-AP syndrome with the usual senioritis. It worsened when mrs. ruff assigned us an AP USH ten-page term paper, and mr. irwin left for a week, giving us a ton of homework. just need to keep remembering 3 more weeks!

I've mentally made a list of which colleges i'm going to apply for this fall. They are:

UC's - Cal, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCSC, UCSB, UCD, UCM? (UPDATE: UCM?, UCR)
USC
Stanford
Cornell (the only Ivy League)
U. of Michigan - Ann Arbor
U. of Illinois
Northwestern
Washington U.
S.J. State U. (THE safety school)

Probably a few others too, but this is what I'm shooting for. Cal and Stanford are probably my top choices. My mom wants me to consider outside CA, so I chose some midwestern colleges. None of the East coast schools or Ivy League's are known for engineering (with the exception of MIT) I'll also be applying for scholarships and studying for SAT's during the summer, so it'll be a busy six months.

I just completed a small video project for school, but due to the risk of discovery and espionage, I have to wait until it's aired.

Shoot, my pop3 email box just failed. That's one more .com down the drain.

Okay, can't think of anything else to say. Maybe i'll do a mid-week update or something

UPDATE: pray for my dad's office manager, Kathy. She has breast cancer =(

UPDATE 5/18: I found a list of 100 things to do before I die (or "go Home"), so I might think up a list for myself and post it bit by bit. Beats hearing rantings about my day.

AP TESTS ARE OVER!

5.10.2004

5:14 PM

Wow, the longest week of my life is finally past. My final AP test ended about 45 minutes ago. Here are my thoughts (need to be careful that I don't "violate ETS copyright rules"!)

AP USH - pretty much what I expected. Everyone thought the essays were really easy. I wasn't 100% confident on them. sucks that I spent all that time studying too. oh well. EXPECTED SCORE: 3

AP PHYSICS - easier than what I thought. For much of it, as long as you have the equations (FR) or just use common sense (MC), you can get answers that, hopefully, are correct. Free-response was worse than multiple choice though. EXPECTED SCORE: 2

Overall, it's interesting how I feel better about Physics than US Hist. I think it's that I expected good on history and got bad. I expected bad on Physics and got good.

Enough about tests, let talk something else. Blogger has republished their site with a smattering of new features, including comments (finally). Sometime soon I'm going to republish my template with a new pic (hehe), and blogger comments, which I'm hesitant to do since I've grown fond of those 10 comments posted so far. *sniff. okay, maybe it was more like 5 comments. anyways, because AP tests are over, we're 5 weeks from school's end, seniors leave early, and I've got to start doing scholarship apps soon, I'm going to post a countdown. It's called Days of Senior (Junior)Itis reamaining (a.k.a. Days 'til graduation).

Why won't anyone buy my guitar???

TESTS, TESTS, TESTS!!!

5.02.2004

2:15 AM

I guess I'll blog on Sunday's instead of Mondays. I dunno, depends when I feel like it. I'm doing it now since I'm up and I'll be extremely busy tomorrow. Heh, I should've been doing homework but I messed around instead. I finished watching The God of Cookery, the first thing I've successfully downloaded using BitTorrent. The movie is so hillarious, especially if you're a fan of Iron Chef. It has some..well...sexual innuendos and plenty of cursing (in the subititles that is), but the movie is great!

Today I took the SAT II Writing exam. It went okay, except that the proctor was really bad. He didn't really know what he was supposed to do, and he stopped all of us for some reason half-way through in addition to 20 minutes into the test. The topic was really stupid too, something about things that seem aren't how they appear. Oh well, it's done and over with until June.

I spent 4 hours in a study/review group for APUSH today. It was extremely long and boring, but it was a good review and a good time to fellowship with my other classmates and mrs. ruff. Funny how we all bought multiple caffeine-and-sugar beverages to keep us alert. I just hope all this studying will somehow pay off. Strangely enough, I also saw Mr. "Farmer" Irwin at safeway today. That's one class I think we'll have trouble with.

I was privileged to be voted, more rated, one of the best Tech Club presentations of the year. I did a PPT & talk on PDA's back in Jan. So know the kitty has come to me, in the form of a $10 Best Buy card and a $10 Old Navy card.

Okay, in an attempt to go off the topic of school, I just want to say that I'm in need of prayer this week. All my teachers decided to throw on projects and work in the midst of AP tests which I'm not really ready for. Pray that I'll draw nearer to God. Tomorrow, no, today, I'll need divine guidance in time management. Let's see if God can surpass my expectations. It would be nice to get some extra studying done.

Okay, quick philisophical note/observation: This past week, Jon Chun sent me some clips of his praise nite at his church last week. Looking at his all-Korean youth group, singing joyfully in unison to an energetic team made me reminisce of camp. Especially since Jon mentioned that he saw so many people he hasn't seen in so long. It's sort've been an encouragement to me to keep on going on for the next few weeks. And in the midst of graduation for the Sr's, it's been an encouragement to cherish the memories and the friendships. For camp, it only comes about once a year. In life, it might be once a lifetime.

It's also encouraged me to try to be more sociable. I believe that is my weakest point. I really don't have any "close" friends at school, and it's hard at SOS since it's only during the weekend that I see them. So I've gotten into this habit of ignorance and indifference. I want to be more sociable, but it's hard for me to speak up and coverse casually with strangers. It makes it even harder when I hear of other friends getting together and just hanging out. Pray that God would help me and that the devil's excuses would not become mine. Like every year, I hope that CBM camp will be a positive help.

I'm thinking now that the next time I blog will be Monday night. By then, all my AP tests will be fine, over, done, owatta. I most likely will be studying for something between now and then. So I guess in the words of Nel's closing xanga statements:

i'm tired.
